A light brown case with an olive green button makes this the earthy version of the Elephant lead. The 2 m polyester tape runs from the case and ends in a swivel zinc alloy clip. Measuring 10 × 8.5 × 2.5 cm and weighing 121 g, it is recommended on the box for dogs up to 35 kg, so a medium-sized dog is fine too. It comes in a window box.
For forest and field walks
Brown and olive green do not stand out on a woodland path. If you walk your dog in the countryside more than in town, this colour goes better with the surroundings and your outdoor clothes. Among bushes and branches the tape can catch. When that happens, call your dog closer so the tape winds in, and only then carry on.
A case with a handle
The case has a curved handle that you slip your fingers through, so you hold it like a small bag. Its shape recalls an elephant, which gave the lead its name. It was designed in the UK and is made in China. The Elephant also comes in blue and in grey.
Two metres of tape
2 m lets your dog sniff along the edge of the path while staying by your side. Attach the swivel clip to the back ring of a harness or to a collar, and give it a gentle tug to check it has closed. On walks, hold the handle rather than the tape.
Check the tape now and then and stop using it once worn. Keep it away from sharp objects and do not let your dog chew it. If the tape gets wet, pull it all the way out at home and let it dry before it winds back in. Children should only hold it with an adult nearby.
