This desk did not come from a furniture factory — it came from Bali, where local craftspeople carefully dismantled old, disused fishing boats and transformed the reclaimed Indonesian teak into new furniture. The wood retains its original character: natural colour variations, a rustic weathered surface, the story of its previous life. This piece of furniture is not just a desk — it is a fishing boat's second life.
At 160 × 60 × 75 cm, it is a fully functional office desk, but with a character entirely unlike uniformly finished furniture. Every piece is different — a different grain, different tones, different traces in the wood: tar stains, water marks and patina from the old fishing boats absorbed into the wood over decades. This desk does not apologise for being one of a kind.
Teak is one of the most resilient tropical hardwoods: its natural oils protect it from moisture and insects. In the case of reclaimed pieces, this natural resilience has been further strengthened over decades. Balinese craftspeople carefully select and shape the boat timbers so that the desk structure is solid and stable, while retaining the rustic character.
Suited to an office, showroom, photography studio, creative workshop or home study — anywhere where objects are expected to tell a story. This desk is not bought in quantity: every piece is different, and that is precisely what gives it its value.
