Sound and character
The MO-60MO octave monochord is one of Feeltone's deepest and most spheric instruments. Both sides are strung: 30 plain D overtone strings on one face, 30 wound D bass strings on the other. This double-sided string layout creates a meditative, octave-wide carpet of sound that acts like a bridge between cosmos and earth — a deep, embracing world of vibration.
How to use
When mounted on its wooden base plate, the instrument can be played vertically, like a tree connecting the energies of sky and earth. Sitting cross-legged on a meditation cushion, on a chair or even standing, you can stroke the overtone strings on one side and then the bass strings on the other; the resulting rocking motion supports physical balance. The included round stands also enable horizontal playing; for chair-height play the extensions are needed.
Why this product
If you wish to underpin the Monolinas with a spheric, deep octave background in playing circles, ensembles, sound baths or sound meditations, the octave monochord is the classic choice. Its 60 strings give both a meditative and a striking presence — as a solo instrument or as a group accompaniment.
Care tips
- Always tune up gradually, as strings may break under excessive tension.
- When placing the bridges under the strings, take care of your fingers: the brass pins are sharp.
- Take restful breaks during longer playing so the vibration can fade out from your own body too.
- Because of its weight, it is strongly recommended to use the matching bag for transport.
About Feeltone
Feeltone is a craft instrument workshop based in Lassan, northern Germany, founded by Ingo Böhme. For more than two decades the team has been building monochords, sound beds, sound chairs and ceremonial drums for therapists, sound artists and meditation practitioners. Every instrument is hand-built from certified, sustainably sourced wood and finished with natural treatments such as hardwax oil.
