This notebook's cover shows the Tree of Life motif, on handmade Lokta paper, with 50 blank pages. The image of a tree spreading its roots and branches is a quiet encouragement to unfold one's thoughts.
Lokta paper
Lokta paper is made from the bark of the Daphne shrub (Lokta in Nepalese) that grows in the Himalayas. The bark grows back naturally, so it can be harvested again without harming the plant – a sustainable, age-old Nepalese craft, today largely carried out by local women.
The Tree of Life symbol
The Tree of Life is an ancient motif that appears in the mythology of many traditions – from Persian legend to the Norse Yggdrasil and the Buddhist Bodhi tree. Tradition knows it as a symbol of life, growth and the connection of generations, an emblem of strength and roots. On the cover it is a warm, encouraging adornment.
What it is good for
For a journal, for noting goals and plans, for sketching. Thanks to its handmade paper each piece is a little unique, and a thoughtful gift too.
