Nomad Sari Kaftan – Turquoise with Beaded Gold and White Eye

Nomad Sari kaftan in turquoise cotton with a beaded blue eye, a gold-edged V-neck and tassels. One size, 103 × 90 cm laid flat, 128 g.

A turquoise kaftan with a large eye made of beads on the chest. Gold beads outline the eye, the white of it is made of white beads and the centre of dark blue ones. Five white beaded drops hang below. The eye sits in the middle of the chest, just under the point of the V-neck. This Nomad Sari kaftan is handmade in India from light cotton. It comes in one size, measures 103 × 90 cm laid flat and weighs 128 g.

The tradition of the blue eye

An eye with a blue centre like this is called mati in Greece and nazar in Turkey. It is said to protect against the evil eye. Around the eastern Mediterranean you still see it in many homes, on jewellery and on clothes. In Turkey the small eye-shaped charms are still made from blue glass.

Thin fabric for over a swimsuit

The fabric is thin and floaty, and in strong sunshine your swimsuit shows through, as you can see in the product photo. That makes it best for the beach or the pool. If you want to wear it around town, put a thin turquoise or white vest top underneath. A white swimsuit, gold jewellery and a natural straw bag suit the turquoise well.

Gold edging, tasselled corners

Gold stitching edges the V-neck, and a turquoise and gold tassel hangs from each bottom corner. The square cut falls over the arms as short, wide sleeves, and on the model in the photo it reaches mid-thigh. Folded, it takes up very little room in your beach bag.

Since it is made by hand, the beaded eye and the tassels may sit slightly differently from the photo. You receive one kaftan, and the basket bag in the picture is not included.
