A hooded cotton zip jacket in brown and greyish-white bands, size XL. It is cut for a 122–130 cm (48–51 in) chest, measured on the body. A soft fleece lining keeps it warm, and it has two side pockets. It was made in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Red and blue stripes run around the cuffs and the hem. Worn with dark brown corduroys or black jeans, the pattern takes centre stage.
For broad shoulders and a bigger build
XL suits someone with broad shoulders or a larger frame. Because the cut is straight and does not cling, a shirt or thin jumper fits underneath. This jacket is not made in any size above XL.
If your chest measures around 122 cm, size L will feel closer and XL looser. A tape measure is a safer guide than the size you usually buy.
For the garden and country walks
Out in the garden or on a walk, you can keep keys and a handkerchief in the two slanted side pockets. When the wind picks up, draw the lined hood in with its cord.
What do the symbols show?
On one sleeve, next to the chest, you will see a crossed double vajra. This is a ritual object in Tibetan Buddhism, and the Sanskrit word means both thunderbolt and diamond. Along the brown lower band, a conch shell and a sun-shaped mandala repeat.
The first wash
Check the sewn-in care label first. Hand washing in cold water with a mild detergent is the gentlest option. Wash it on its own the first time, as stronger colours may release a little dye. Reshape it while damp and dry it on a line.
