Who is this smaller Nirmala bowl made for?
If you are just getting to know singing bowls or want a piece in your home that you can easily pick up and use, this Nirmala bowl of approximately 16.75 cm in diameter was made for you. Thanks to its size, it fits on a smaller shelf, a bedside table or a quiet corner, and you can use it for morning breathing exercises, evening wind-down or to open a shorter meditation session. Its sound is clear, round and slightly higher in pitch, which many people find especially soothing.
What is it like to play?
You place the bowl on a soft cushion or in the palm of your hand, then gently tap the rim with the included wooden striker. A single strike produces a long, gently vibrating tone. If you draw the striker around the rim in a circular motion, a continuous humming sound builds up that slowly rises. You do not need to be an expert – after a few minutes of trying, you will feel when it sings most beautifully.
Material and handcrafted nature
The bowl is made of a metal alloy using traditional hand techniques by Himalayan craftsmen. Every piece is unique: small marks, hammer traces and subtle colour variations on the surface show that this is not a mass-produced item. The engraved pattern on the rim and the inside of the bowl can also vary from piece to piece, which gives each bowl its own character.
Where can you use it in everyday life?
Besides meditation practice, it works very well as an opening and closing tone for silent meditation, to start a yoga or stretching session, to gently calm a child before sleep, or to support focus exercises while you study or work from home. Many people use it as part of a morning ritual: one strike, a few mindful breaths, and stepping into the day already feels easier.
Care and storage tips
Always place the bowl on a soft, non-slip cushion so the sound can fully develop and the surface does not get scratched. Clean it with a dry, soft cloth. Keep it away from strong cleaning agents and dishwashing liquids. If you do not use it for a longer period, store it in a dry, dust-free place. Do not leave the striker resting inside the bowl as it can leave a mark. Cared for this way, it will be a faithful companion for many years.
