Néro eggplant (aubergine) is a high-quality field variety — forms a semi-tall bushy plant. The fruits are elongated, beautifully shiny, with dark purple skin — the classic eggplant look. The flesh is yellowish-white, fine and excellent in flavour — ideal both for Mediterranean and Hungarian cuisine.
Sowing and growing
Sowing time: February–March in seed trays (eggplant has a long growing season, so early sowing is needed). Transplanting: late May, when the weather is warm. Spacing: 70×50 cm. Nutrient- and heat-loving — plant in a warm, sunny spot.
The fruits ripen in August–September, with multiple pickings per plant. Eggplant is the cornerstone of many classic dishes: moussaka, ratatouille, baba ganoush, grilled and breaded eggplant slices. Home-grown Néro brings the full Mediterranean experience right to the home kitchen.
