Why does neem oil have such a strong scent?

The strong, earthy-vegetal scent of neem oil is the oil's natural character — the biologically active compounds in it produce this distinctive aroma. This is not a defect and does not mean the oil has spoiled. If you find the scent too strong for your own formulations, you can dilute the oil with other milder carrier oils, which softens the aroma while preserving part of the strength of the active components.

What can I use neem oil for?

Neem oil can be used in many homemade cosmetics: as a base for creams, balms, hair masks, nail care blends and scalp serums. It is also frequently incorporated into homemade formulations to address certain skin concerns — acne, eczema, fungal skin issues. On its own it is only recommended diluted or blended with another carrier oil, as its strong active content can be intense.
