A small natural pouch of jacquard fabric, about 12 × 10 cm laid flat, made in India. The pack contains 12 pouches with the three designs mixed, so some of them will be the same. You cannot choose the designs individually, and they may differ from the photo.
A palm-sized pouch
It is roughly the size of your palm. A ring, a pair of earrings, a pendant or one or two small stones fit inside comfortably. Earrings stay together as a pair, so there is no hunting for the second one at the bottom of your bag.
It also fits in the inside pocket of a handbag or a coat. A jewellery drawer stays tidy, too, when every piece has its own pouch. For something bigger, such as a mala or several crystal points, the 15 × 12 cm jacquard pouch is the better choice.
The loom behind the name
This weave is named after Joseph Marie Jacquard, a French weaver. In the early 19th century he built a loom controlled by punched cards. The card decided which thread was lifted, and that is how the pattern took shape. Later, the designers of early calculating machines took up the idea of control by punched cards.
Patterned fabrics are still woven on this principle today, so the design of this pouch is made of the threads themselves rather than printed on.
For a small gift
A stone or a pendant looks nicer in a pouch than in paper, and the pouch stays with the person you give it to. If you collect crystals, you can keep the smaller pieces in separate pouches so they do not scratch each other. Twelve pouches are enough to put a small jewellery drawer in order.
