How does the alum stone work as a natural deodorant?
The alum stone is a naturally occurring potassium alum crystal, used for centuries in the Mediterranean region for skincare and as an antiperspirant. The slightly alkaline surface of the stone prevents the proliferation of odour-causing bacteria on the skin, without inhibiting the natural perspiration process. You receive a deodorant that does not clog pores yet effectively neutralises unpleasant odours.
How does it differ from conventional deodorants?
Commercial deodorants often contain aluminium chloride, parabens and synthetic fragrances that can cause irritation on sensitive skin. The alum stone, in contrast, consists of a single mineral raw material. You leave no staining marks on your clothes, and do not mask odour with artificial perfume, but stop the problem at its source.
What can you use the alum stone for?
We primarily recommend it for underarms as a deodorant, but you can use it on feet against unpleasant odour, as well as a post-shaving soother on the face, because it has haemostatic and mildly disinfecting effects. Shaving men particularly know this traditional application well.
How to use it correctly?
Moisten the surface of the stone with cold water, then rub gently onto clean, washed skin, typically the underarms. A 10-15 second application is sufficient. Let it dry, and the protection lasts for several hours. You can finish deodorising in the mornings with a single movement.
Long life and care
Wipe dry after use and store in a dry place. One stone, with normal daily use, lasts up to 1-2 years. If it accidentally falls and breaks, the pieces remain usable, or you can dissolve them in water to make a liquid deodorant.
