Nagydobos winter squash is one of the oldest and most beloved Hungarian kitchen varieties. Long-season, medium-strong vines. The fruit is flattened round, averaging 4–8 kg, with a silver-grey rind and deep orange, sweet, mealy flesh inside. Filling and rich in vitamins.
Growing
Sow in early May directly in the garden. Plant spacing 1 metre, row spacing 1.5 metres. Nutrient-demanding, generous composting helps.
The squash ripens in September–October. Harvest when the rind has hardened. Uses: roasted winter squash, squash soup, pumpkin pie, jam, gnocchi. Stores for months in a cool place.
