This mugwort incense is made from the dried parts of Artemisia vulgaris. Its green, herbal-balsamic smoke belongs to one of the oldest ritual herbs, giving a room a firm yet soothing presence.
About mugwort
Mugwort is a wild plant found across Europe, Asia and North America, honoured by many cultures. In East Asian tradition the dried, powdered herb is also burned on its own as "moxa" — the basis of the practice of moxibustion.
Tradition and atmosphere
Tradition holds that mugwort smoke offers protection, lends courage and accompanies space-clearing or dream-tuning rituals. Many light it for evening quiet or an intention-setting ceremony. As a natural side benefit, its smoke also helps keep mosquitoes at bay.
How to use it
Place a pinch of the dried herb on glowing charcoal in a heatproof dish, or on a sieve burner where it smoulders more slowly. It blends well with sandalwood, resins and other dried herbs, so you can build your own mix.
Responsible use and good to know
Burn in a well-ventilated space, and keep glowing charcoal on a fireproof surface; mugwort is best avoided during pregnancy. As a natural plant product, the colour, aroma intensity and piece size will vary from batch to batch, which is part of working with a genuine dried herb rather than a manufactured stick.
