How the mirror gong is built
This gong is a polished, mirror-finish bronze piece with a laser-drawn Flower of Life pattern at its centre. The diameter is 40 cm and the weight is 1580 grams, making it a serious instrument that easily becomes a focal point in a room. Its rim is hand-hammered, which leaves small irregular dimples that also add variety to the sound.
How it sounds
The smooth polished surface allows a long, rich sound with a broad spectrum, which fits meditation, sound therapy and musical performance very well. Because of the hammered edge, every strike calls forth different fundamentals and overtones. With a gentle stroke you can get a deep, sustained tone, while a stronger hit gives a more complex, fuller sound picture. It can also be played with friction mallets, known as flumies, which produce especially varied tones.
About the Flower of Life pattern
The Flower of Life pattern is applied to the surface by laser. At the supplier this is still a developing printing process, so small streaks may appear in the drawing. This does not affect the sound of the gong in any way and only gives the visual appearance a fine individual character. You can see the pattern of sacred geometry beautifully reflected in the light.
How to use it
The gong is used in meditation practices, sound baths and concerts. For practice at home a softer stroke gives a quiet, deepening tone, while in a group session you can sound a stronger, sustained fundamental. Its wide tonal range covers both the meditative and the performing sides nicely.
Hanging and care
Holes on the rim allow you to hang the gong on a stand or frame. After use wipe the surface with a soft, lint-free cloth so fingerprints do not remain. Avoid strong chemical cleaners, as the polished bronze surface does not handle them well. This way you can preserve both the mirror effect and the Flower of Life drawing for years.
