Mineral obelisk – Labradorite

Labradorite obelisk with a dark grey base and blue, green and gold flashes. Quiet decoration for a shelf, writing desk or meditation corner at home.

The special play of light in labradorite

You hold an obelisk whose dark grey base appears deep and serious at first sight. Yet when you turn it gently, flashes of blue, green or gold run across the surface. This is the characteristic phenomenon of labradorite, often described as a soft inner flash.

The pillar form and the tip

The obelisk rises from a square foot to its closing tip. The surface is polished, smooth and slightly glossy. The light responds more strongly from some angles and more quietly from others, so the stone never grows dull to look at. With each change of light you discover a new face.

Where to place it at home

Labradorite shows its character best in places where natural or artificial light reaches it from varied angles. A free corner of a bookshelf, the top of a low chest or the quieter side of a windowsill are all suitable. You may also rest it on a small wooden tray, so that the dark base stands out clearly from its surroundings.

Quiet observation and meditation

The labradorite obelisk supports turning inwards because its light is not showy but gentle. In a meditation corner, by the soft flame of a candle, you can observe the flashes. While looking, slow deep breaths help the mind to rest and the haste of the day to subside.

Cleaning and care

Labradorite is of moderate hardness, yet protect it from falls and from scratching objects. Dust it from time to time with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid strong chemicals, which may dull both the flash and the clarity of the surface. If you keep it among other stones, place a soft cloth between them so they do not knock against one another.
