The MEINL Wind Gongs are traditionally handcrafted in China using a special bronze alloy that gives the gongs their unique sound. Each gong, made by hand, has distinct acoustic properties, providing a unique experience for both musicians and those participating in sound therapy.
Feng or Sun Gong – Unique Shape and Sound
The MEINL Wind Gongs are also known as Feng or Sun Gongs. These gongs feature an almost flat shape, which allows the sound to fully open up. This flat shape helps the gong’s sound spread widely and sustain for a long time. This design is particularly effective as it allows the gong’s acoustic performance to be fully maximized, ensuring a rich, dynamic, and clear sound.
Deep Tones and Sizzling Overtones
One of the main characteristics of the MEINL Wind Gongs is their deep-toned base, which dominates with softer strikes. However, with stronger strikes, the gong beautifully opens up and produces wave-like overtones. The sizzling overtones enrich the sound, while the gong’s acoustic experience continually changes and expands. This distinctive sound makes the gong particularly suitable for musical performances, meditations, and sound therapy applications.

MEINL Wind Gongs are available in various sizes, ranging from 12" (30 cm) in diameter to 48" (120 cm). Each gong comes with a mallet and cover designed specifically for its size, enabling the full utilization of the gong’s acoustic potential and ensuring its protection when not in use.
