A journal where even the touch tells you something. Nepali lokta paper is strong yet soft, with a fine textured surface — and when you place a pen on the page, you feel that you are not writing on a factory product, but on a piece shaped by tradition. The finely floral cover, with a hand-printed feel, evokes natural motifs, and the 15 × 12 cm size sits gently in the hand: designed to go with you wherever you travel.

What lokta paper is

Lokta paper is made from the bark of the Daphne shrub, native to the highlands of Nepal — handcrafted in small workshops with techniques passed down across generations. The process is slow: the bark is boiled, hand-pressed and air-dried. The result is a remarkable, archival paper — lokta sheets remain intact decades later, which is why they have traditionally been used for religious and official documents. Such paper has its own character: every sheet is slightly different, and this is what makes the journal one of a kind.

Ideal for

The fair trade context

The journal is made in Nepal under fair trade arrangements. Lokta paper-making is an important source of income for highland communities, and handwork here is not advertising language but a baseline — every sheet is shaped one by one, and the binding too is done by hand. This is why every journal is slightly different; the small irregularities are part of the paper's character, not flaws. The 45 pages are just enough to take with you on a journey, through a project, or across a season.

A journal that reminds you that paper, too, has a story — and wherever you take it, a small piece of that tradition travels with you.
