This selection holds about 1 kg of medium amethyst geodes, which is 2–3 pieces. Each measures about 6–9 cm, and they come from India. They arrive opened, and the open side shows a hollow lined with crystals. The shade may be soft purple, pale violet or a deeper purple. Shape, surface and crystal pattern also differ from piece to piece, since these are natural stones.
Fewer, larger pieces
For the same weight of about 1 kg, you get 2–3 larger geodes here, while the small amethyst geode selection holds 4–6 smaller ones. In a larger hollow the crystals show up more clearly. A single geode of this size holds its own on a bookcase, a mantelpiece or in a glass cabinet.

Where the name comes from
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. Its name goes back to the ancient Greeks: amethystos means “not drunk”. Today, people who work with crystals regard amethyst as a stone for meditation, so many keep it where they sit quietly in the evening.
Softer light keeps it purple
In strong, lasting sunlight the purple of amethyst can fade over time. Put it where the light is softer, for example near a north-facing window or further into the room. Brush the dust out from between the crystals with a dry, soft brush; no water is needed. If you have two or three good spots at home, each geode can have one.
