The crescent-shaped meditation cushion curves softly in front of crossed legs and gently supports the thighs – for many a more comfortable seat than a fully round cushion. On its handle sits the embroidered symbol of the 7th chakra, the koronacsakra (Sahasrara), so the object also carries the theme of the practice.
The Sahasrara in tradition
Yoga and tantra recognise seven main chakras, subtle energy centres along the body's midline. The Sahasrara is, in this tradition, said to belong to the crown of the head. It is known as the centre of spaciousness and connection to the whole; tradition links it to spiritual openness and stillness. All of this belongs to the tradition of the chakra system and offers themes of inward attention for practice.
Material and make
- Shape: crescent, to gently support the thighs and knees.
- Outer cover: cotton with a handle and a zip closure; the chakra symbol embroidered on the handle.
- Inner cushion: cotton with a drawstring.
- Filling: sieved, good-quality buckwheat hulls for a stable seat.
- Size: 33 × 13 cm.
Height adjusts with the amount of filling, so the seat suits your own build; the handle makes the cushion easy to carry.
What it's for
For meditation, breathing practice and longer quiet sitting, where the curved form spares the hips and knees. The embroidered symbol recalls the theme of the Sahasrara.
Care
Hand wash in cold to lukewarm water, or machine wash at 30°C.
