Meditation — Chamomile and Lavender Calming Tea in a Gift Tin
Meditation is a carefully composed calming herbal blend designed for those who seek quiet moments, evening relaxation and a return to inner balance. Over a classic base of chamomile and lavender, deeper supporting herbs have been layered: lemon balm, yarrow, St John's wort, lapacho, hawthorn and passionflower — each with centuries of tradition in folk herbal medicine, especially for winding down, sleep support and calming the mind.
The classic calmers — chamomile and lavender
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) has been the best-known calming tea for centuries. Its natural flavonoid apigenin (a plant compound) may help soothe the nervous system. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) calms even through its aroma — research points to linalool, one of its volatile compounds, as a contributor to wind-down. In this blend, lavender appears in discreet proportion, refining but never overpowering the other herbs.
The supporting cast
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) brings a fresh citrus lift, long valued for supporting calm wellbeing. Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is traditionally used for inner balance and comfort. St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) adds a subtly sweet character particularly favoured in autumn and winter. Lapacho (Tabebuia avellanedae) is a Brazilian bark with earthy notes and natural antioxidants. Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is traditionally associated with the calm around the heart, while passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is a long-standing companion to winding down before sleep.
Flavour and aroma profile
The aroma is softly floral and subtly sweet, with the characteristic chamomile-lavender background. The first sip opens with chamomile's soft sweetness, lifted by lavender's discreet floral whisper. Through the middle, lemon balm's citrus freshness and yarrow's mildly bittersweet herbal character come through. The finish carries hawthorn and passionflower's soft earthy-sweet close. Overall: soft, warm and soothing.
Who is it for?
Ideal for those who: want to build an evening calming ritual; seek a supportive cup after a stressful day; find it hard to wind down for sleep and want a natural, caffeine-free companion; enjoy a calming drink before or after yoga or meditation; or want a warm, inwardly soothing ritual during autumn and winter.
How to brew it
Use 4 grams of tea (about a heaped tablespoon, as the herbs take more volume) per 200 ml of water at 95 °C, steeped for 5–10 minutes. Longer steeping is beneficial here — the herbs release their full aroma slowly, and for a calming blend a more intense cup often serves better. Lovely plain, or with a spoon of honey (which enhances the lavender character) or a drop of lemon.
The premium tin
The 50-gram airtight metal tin (6.5 × 6.5 × 7 cm) protects the flowers and herbs from light, moisture and aroma loss. Chamomile and lavender are particularly sensitive to light, so the tin here is not just an aesthetic choice. Elegant and discreet, it can form the base of a wellness-focused gift set.
Important notes
St John's wort can interact with some medications (e.g. blood thinners, antidepressants, contraceptives). If you take regular medication, consult your doctor before regular use. Occasional, 1–2 cups a week, is generally fine.
Tips
Enjoy Meditation 30–60 minutes before bed in a quiet setting, perhaps alongside a warm bath. Try it with a splash of plant-based milk (almond, rice) and a spoon of honey — a surprisingly friendly, calming "evening latte".
