Gyógyító Buddha singing bowl – approx. 29 cm in diameter
This singing bowl is a larger, hand-made piece with the figure of Gyógyító Buddha visible on its side in fine engravings. The 29 centimetre diameter already gives a serious, full sound — you can feel almost at once how the bowl's deep, soft tone runs through the room and lasts for several seconds even after you have put the striker aside. The Medicine Buddha figure is a traditional symbol of asking for bodily and inner renewal.
What the tone is like, and why this size is loved
Larger singing bowls have a deeper fundamental note and a longer fading tone — that is why meditation communities and sound therapy circles like them. A single circular motion with the wooden striker, and the vibration runs around the rim of the bowl. If you sound it at home in a quiet room, you can feel how the tone slowly fades and your attention slows with it. This bowl is not sharp or startling — it is warm, full and quiet.
What it can be used for in daily life
Many sound it as the opening and closing signal of meditation, because the tone helps you arrive in the moment. Before a yoga session or breathing practice the bowl's tone signals that from now on you are paying attention to your own body and breath. Before evening rest it also shows itself well — after a soft strike the silence becomes noticeably fuller. In families with children it can become the ritual of quietening down before sleep.
Material and hand making
The bowl is made from a metal alloy, shaped by traditional cast and smooth forming, then the surface is polished and engraved. The Gyógyító Buddha figure is placed on the side of the bowl with hand engraving, so each piece is slightly unique — the line work, the rim of the bowl, the depth of the engravings may differ from piece to piece. These are not faults but natural signs of hand work. A wooden striker comes with the bowl, tuned to the bowl's tone.
Cleaning and care
Wipe with a dry, soft cloth after use. Do not place it on a wet surface, and avoid chemical cleaners — the surface of the metal may take on a patinated shade over time, which is the natural ageing of the bowl. Store it where it will not receive a sharp impact, and do not place heavy objects on it. If the tone becomes quieter, usually a thorough wipe is enough. Store the bowl standing on a soft mat or fabric cushion so the rim does not wear.
