The Medicine Buddha inside the bowl
The inner surface of this bowl shows the Medicine Buddha seated on a lotus throne in a calm, upright posture. One hand is extended in a gesture of generosity, while the other rests in his lap holding a small bowl of healing nectar. He is surrounded by a detailed aureole with radiating lines and ornamental patterns. The inner wall carries eight medallions with the traditional Eight Auspicious Symbols, complemented by dharma wheels, endless knots, lotus motifs and bands of Tibetan mantras. When you look inside, you see a complete symbolic world centred on healing, protection and inner balance.
Hand-hammered bronze alloy
The bowl is made through a complete hand-hammering process. Metal discs are heated, stacked and shaped by experienced artisans with repeated strikes until the bowl takes form. The process is repeated several times, so each piece carries small variations in size and shape — you receive a one-of-a-kind item that bears the marks of true craftsmanship. The alloy combines copper, tin and additional metals, including trace amounts of noble metals (Ag, Ni, Cd, Ru, Pd, Pt, Cr, Mn). After shaping, every bowl is chiseled and polished, resulting in a durable, harmonious instrument suited for ritual use and sound therapy alike.
Laser etching and hand-painting in thanka style
The deity image and the decorative elements are first etched by a high-powered laser, then carefully hand-painted by skilled thanka artists. As a result, each bowl has its own hand-finished surface — you will notice fine details that reward a closer look in good light.
Exterior and underside
The outside of the bowl features cloud and wave motifs, circular mantra panels and ornamental borders. The underside carries one large, central vajra motif framed by geometric borders and lotus-inspired decoration. From any angle, the piece works as a striking visual object on a side table, home altar or sound therapy space.
How you can use it
We recommend this bowl for meditation, quiet reflection and sound work centred on the themes of healing and inner stability. The mallet (felt- or leather-lined) needs to be ordered separately. A softer mallet produces a deep, slowly unfolding sound; a harder one gives a clearer, more penetrating tone. Because the bowl is handmade, the diameter and weight are approximate — the bowls are sorted by weight.
