Warm gold, honey-brown and smoky shades run along the 54 cm strand: this mala is an earthy, calm piece for meditation and everyday wear alike. A traditional mala is a strand used to count the rhythm of meditation or breath.
The three stones
Yellow jasper is a compact, warm yellow chalcedony-related rock, known in tradition as a stone of steadiness and perseverance. Tiger eye is a golden-brown, silky quartz across which a banded play of light (chatoyancy) runs; it is spoken of as a stone of focus and courage. Smoky quartz is a quartz ranging from brown to smoky grey, its colour caused by natural irradiation; it is known as a stone of grounding and of letting go of tension. These are traditions, not medical promises.
Use and wear
Many turn the mala's beads with a finger to count breaths or a quiet mantra, which helps to settle the attention. The 54 cm length passes comfortably over the head and goes on easily without a clasp. Worn as a long necklace it is an earthy, calm-toned piece that suits many outfits and makes a good base for a dressier layered look.
Care
Wipe it with a soft cloth and protect it from prolonged moisture and chemicals. Each piece is unique: the shade and banding of the stones vary a little.
