A calm row of soft, milky-white agate beads with fine banding – a quiet, grounded companion for meditation.

The stone of white agate

Agate is the banded variety of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz); white agate shows fine, pale layering and has a Mohs hardness of about 7. Tradition knows it as a stone of grounding and stability, a calm companion to meditation. These are traditional ideas, not medical claims.

The 108-bead mala

A mala is the prayer strand of the Hindu and Buddhist traditions, originally used to count mantras in meditation. A larger guru bead closes the 108 beads; it stands for wisdom, while the small cylinder above it represents emptiness. The beads pass one by one between the fingers while attention rests on the meaning and vibration of the words. Today many also wear a mala wrapped around the wrist.

How to use it

Hold the mala in your hand during meditation or mantra recitation and move from bead to bead; through the day it can be worn wrapped around the wrist.
