Black Tourmaline Mala – 108-Bead Prayer Strand

Black Tourmaline mala, a 108-bead prayer strand for counting mantras and deepening meditation, about 33 cm long.

A row of deep-black, finely striated tourmaline beads – a steady, grounded companion for practice.

The stone of black tourmaline

Tourmaline is a complex boron-silicate mineral; the black variety (schorl) is recognised by its deep, even black and lengthwise striations. Tradition regards it as a stone of grounding and protection, said to help keep calm in turbulent moments. These are traditional ideas, not medical claims.

The 108-bead mala

A mala is the prayer strand of the Hindu and Buddhist traditions, originally used to count mantras in meditation. A larger guru bead closes the 108 beads, standing for wisdom, while the small cylinder above it represents emptiness. The beads pass one by one between the fingers while attention rests on the meaning and vibration of the words.

How to use it

Hold the mala in your hand during meditation or mantra recitation and move from bead to bead; through the day it can be worn wrapped around the wrist.
