The stone of black agate

Black agate is the deep-black variety of chalcedony, smooth and even when polished, with a Mohs hardness of about 7. Tradition knows it as a stone of grounding and protection, said to lend composure and perseverance in tense moments. These are traditional ideas.

The 108-bead mala

A mala is the prayer strand of the Hindu and Buddhist traditions, originally used to count mantras in meditation. A larger guru bead closes the 108 beads; it stands for wisdom, while the small cylinder above it represents emptiness. The beads pass one by one between the fingers while attention rests on the meaning and vibration of the words. Today many also wear a mala wrapped around the wrist.

How to use it

Hold the mala in your hand during meditation or mantra recitation and move from bead to bead; through the day it can be worn wrapped around the wrist.
