A lotus-shaped tea light holder whose petals are assembled by hand from fine plates of capiz shell. The smoked-beige tone gives off a warm, earthy mood, and a tea light's glow filters softly through the translucent shell.
About capiz shell
Capiz is the flat, translucent shell of Placuna placenta, the windowpane oyster. It takes its name from the province of Capiz on the island of Panay in the Philippines, where it was traditionally gathered from shallow coastal waters. Its thin, luminous plates served as natural windowpanes for centuries; here they are shaped into small petals to form the lotus. As a natural material, each piece is unique and may show small imperfections — part of its handcrafted character.
About the lotus symbol
The lotus is the pure flower that rises from the mud above the water, a recurring motif in Eastern art. By tradition it stands for transformation from darkness into light, from ignorance into knowledge. As a candle holder, the kindling flame is itself a small celebration of light.
Size, use and care
The holder, around 13.5 × 5.5 cm, is made for tea lights. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Capiz shell does not like moisture, so wipe it with a dry cloth and protect it from prolonged damp.
