C pentatonic: open and bright
This log drum is tuned to a C pentatonic scale and offers brilliantly clear, open sound possibilities. There is no dissonant combination on a pentatonic scale, so everything works on it, from virtuoso runs to slow, exploratory playing - and all of it without any musical training.
The eight notes
The tuning consists of eight tones: e - g - a - c' - d' - e' - g' - a'. These are the degrees of the C major pentatonic scale, which gives the drum a bright, cheerful voice that never turns saccharine. The lower notes work as accompaniment while the upper ones carry the melody on the same instrument.
Padouk soundboard, alder body
The soundboard is made of padouk (Pterocarpus soyauxii) and the body of solid alder. This pairing gives the instrument its warm, woody base colour and its long decay. Premium components make every tongue speak evenly and cleanly.
Mallets or hands
The recommended mallets are the MA102 and MA103, but the instrument also responds to palms and fingertips. Measuring 60 x 20 x 18 cm, it is comfortable to play on a table, a chair, the floor or your lap, and easy to carry to a session or a performance.
