Ten notes, two octaves
This log drum is built with ten tongues, giving it the widest range in the family: the F pentatonic scale runs across two full octaves. You can accompany or lay down a foundation on the low notes and carry the melody on the high ones - all on a single instrument, without even changing mallets.
The original Schlagwerk log drum
The maker regards this model as its original log drum, and versatility is its outstanding quality. With ten tongues you can play real melodies, counterpoint and complex rhythms, while the pentatonic tuning means that even a beginner cannot strike a wrong note.
The tuning in detail
The ten notes are: f - g - a - c' - d' - f' - g' - a' - c'' - d''. A pentatonic scale is made for intuitive playing: it contains no semitone step to break the harmony, so you can improvise freely without any sheet music.
What the instrument is made of
The soundboard is made of padouk (Pterocarpus soyauxii) and the body of solid alder. The instrument measures 60 x 20 x 18 cm, and the recommended mallets are the MA102 and MA103. It is equally at home in a drum circle, in music education and in sound therapy work.
