Large Smudge Stick Holder with Tea Light Cup – Three of Swords Tarot Card

Smudge stick holder with the Three of Swords tarot card, a wooden base, black metal rails and a tea light cup. 23 × 9 × 7 cm, made in India.

The Three of Swords from the tarot decorates the wooden base of this smudge stick holder. In the picture, three swords pierce a red heart while rain falls from grey clouds behind it. The base is 23 cm long and 9 cm wide, 7 cm tall with its two black metal rails, and has a tea light cup set into one end. Made in India, it weighs 0.4 kg.

A card of sorrow

In tarot tradition, the Three of Swords is the card of sorrow and disappointment. Some readings also take the rain in the picture as a sign of things clearing.

Many people smudge their home with sage to close a difficult chapter. If that is the occasion you have in mind, this picture suits it.

Card, wood and metal

The picture follows the classic Rider–Waite deck. Above it is the number III, and below, the card’s name in English, 3 OF SWORDS. A glossy coating covers it, with the grain of the wood showing around the edges. In grey and red, it looks quieter on the dark wood than the yellow and blue cards in the series.

From the back end of the base, the two black metal rails rise and run level above the tea light cup. Lay the bundle on them with the lit end facing forward. A tea light fits in the cup, and you can light the bundle from its flame. Sage and candle are not included.

Finishing a smudge

When you have finished, press the glowing end of the bundle into sand or a heat-resistant bowl until the smoke has stopped completely. Always stand the holder on a steady, heat-resistant surface away from anything flammable, and air the room while you smudge. Never leave a burning bundle or candle unattended.
