An eight-pointed star in a blue sky
A large yellow eight-pointed star shines in the picture, surrounded by smaller white stars. Below it, a kneeling woman pours water from two jugs, one into a pool and the other onto the bank. At the bottom of the card is THE STAR in English, with the number XVII above. The blue water and sky stand out against the warm brown wood, so the picture is easy to see from across the room.
Tarot tradition reads the Star as the card of hope and renewal. In the order of the cards it comes after the Tower and before the Moon. If you would like to mark a new beginning, for example with a first smudge after moving house, this is the card for it.
Where the rails and candle go
The black metal rails rise from the back end of the base and reach forward, level. Lay the sage bundle on them so that its lit end sits above the tea light cup. That way the bundle does not lie on the picture.
A tea light fits in the cup. Sage and candle do not come with the holder, so you will need to choose them separately.
Smudging with the window open
By tradition, sage smoke is used to clear the space in a home. Open a window while you smudge, put the holder on a heat-resistant, steady surface and keep it away from curtains. Stay with the burning bundle and candle, and put the bundle out in sand when you have finished.
