The first card of the tarot, the Fool, decorates this wooden smudge stick holder. Its base is 23 cm long and 9 cm wide, 7 cm tall with its black metal rails, and has a tea light cup at one end. Made in India, it weighs 0.46 kg.
The first card, number zero
Of the 22 major cards of the tarot, the Fool is number zero. In the picture, a young traveller in bright clothes steps towards the edge of a cliff, a staff and small bundle over his shoulder and a white rose in his hand. In tarot tradition, the Fool is the card of new beginnings, openness and trust. It makes a lovely gift for someone starting something new, such as a move, a new job or a long trip. If you work with tarot cards yourself, the first card of the deck is always in view here.
Two rails, one candle
Two black metal rails come up from the back end of the base and reach forward, level. Lay the sage bundle on them so its lit end sits above the tea light cup. A tea light fits in the cup, and you can light the bundle from its flame.
You receive the holder; no sage bundle or candle comes with it. If you are new to smudging with sage, choose those to go with it.
Taking care while you smudge
By tradition, sage smoke is used to clear a space. Air the room while you smudge, stand the holder on a steady, heat-resistant surface and do not leave it unattended. Finally, press the glowing end of the bundle into sand until the smoke stops.
