The floral lokta journal is born at the meeting of the Himalayan craft tradition and the beauty of nature. The robust, naturally textured surface of the handmade lokta paper receives the printed floral pattern – the result is a unique, characterful journal that anyone who values natural materials and handcraft will enjoy holding. It comes from Nepal, where lokta paper-making is a craft passed down through generations.

Floral cover – nature and handcraft

On the floral lokta journal, the printed pattern is applied to hand-dipped paper, which lends the cover a distinctive appearance thanks to the uneven, organic texture of the natural fibres. Each journal differs slightly from the next – arising from the uniqueness of the paper, the pattern shows minor variations that are characteristics of handcraft. This variation is not a defect but the hallmark of authentic handwork.

Lokta paper – a sustainable natural material

The bark of the lokta shrub (Daphne buxifolia) is partially harvested by local collectors – the plant does not die, as its roots and trunk are preserved, and it regrows for the following season. This sustainable harvesting method makes lokta paper an environmentally friendly choice. The paper production does not require chemicals either – only water, bark, hands and sun. The finished sheets are made from a naturally biodegradable material.
