Sound and character
A 55 cm frame drum is one of the deepest, most powerful voices in the feeltone ceremonial drum family. The fullness and breath of such a large drum depends on lacing that is even, firm, yet still elastic. Horsehide is ideal for this: it gives structure while letting vibration through, so the drum speaks with a deep, long-sustained fundamental tone.
How to use
The cord is sized for a 55 cm frame drum and arrives in long, pre-sliced strips. Before lacing, soak it in lukewarm water until soft and stretchy. Build the classic star pattern on the back from the centre outward, turning the drum from time to time so the tension stays even all around.
