Sound and character
A 50 cm drum is already a serious, deep-voiced instrument. At this size, lacing becomes a long task in itself: more turns, more time, more patience. Horsehide is the perfect partner for this work because it is both durable and breathing: the finished drum speaks with a deep, soft fundamental, while staying open to subtle nuances.
How to use
The cord is cut to fit a 50 cm frame drum and arrives in long, pre-sliced strips. Soak it in lukewarm water until soft and stretchy. For the classic star pattern on the back of the drum, start from the centre and work outward in steady, even tension.
