Sound and character
The rawhide cord is not an instrument in itself, but it holds the soul of the drum together. The tension you build into the lacing is what gives the drumhead its voice. Horsehide is particularly strong and elastic, holding tension well over the years and keeping the drum sound stable.
How to use
This length is cut specifically for a 35 cm diameter frame drum. The cord arrives ready to use, sliced into long strips following the Feeltone workshop's traditional pattern, so you can begin the classic star or cross lacing on the back of the drum right away. Soak the cord in lukewarm water until it becomes soft and stretchy before you start.
Why this product
- Exactly the right length, no measuring or cutting needed
- Strong, traditionally prepared rawhide
- The same quality used by Feeltone for their own ritual drums
- Matches perfectly with other Feeltone drum-building materials
Care tips
- Ideally the lacing cord and the drumhead should come from the same animal so they dry and tighten evenly
- Keep a bowl of lukewarm water nearby to re-moisten the cord during work
- Keep away from children: the long cord poses a strangulation hazard
