Sound and character
A 35 cm frame drum is one of the most popular sizes: comfortable in the hand, yet with a serious, full voice. Cowhide lacing cord works particularly well at this size: it gives a firm hold, the drumhead stays taut, and the sound takes on a clear, defined character while keeping its natural warmth.
How to use
The cord is sized for a 35 cm diameter frame drum and arrives in pre-sliced strips, so the classic star pattern on the back can begin right away. Soak it in lukewarm water until the rawhide softens, then build the lacing from the centre outward with even tension. As it dries, the voice of the drum becomes even clearer.
