A shaker bracelet that you slide onto your wrist, and it sounds with every movement of your hand. Two rows of dark brown oval wooden beads form the band, with 15 kenari nut shells hanging all around it and small green, yellow and red beads in between. Thin brown discs sit between the wooden beads. It is about 5 cm across. Made in Indonesia.
What is kenari?
Kenari is the nut of a tree that grows on the eastern islands of Indonesia. People there eat the nuts and even bake them into biscuits, and the hard, light brown shells become shakers like this one. Once dried, a shell is light and gives a clear click when it touches another. A slow movement gives a soft patter, and a strong shake a louder rattle.
The shells are natural, so their shape and shade vary from piece to piece.
While drumming and dancing
If you play a drum, the shaker on your wrist adds a soft rattle to every beat while your hand stays free. When you dance, it makes your arm movements heard. It is handy in a drum circle, at a festival or when singing together with children.
One wrist or both
Each order is for one bracelet. If you want one on each hand, order two, so that both hands sound as you drum. Don't give it to children under three, as it has small beads.
A gift for someone who makes music
For anyone who drums, dances or collects small instruments, it is a light and friendly gift. Keep it somewhere dry, as damp is not good for the natural shells or the wood. Don't put anything heavy on it, as a dried shell can crack.
