This Himalayan juniper incense is made from the dried berries of Juniperus macropoda. Its intense, resinous-spicy smoke spreads a high-altitude clarity through a space.
About Himalayan juniper
This plant grows at altitudes of up to 4,000 metres in the Himalayas, and for that reason it gives off a very intense, characteristic fragrance. People of the region used it for protection and to purify their living space.
Tradition and atmosphere
The juniper's incense was called "Food of the Gods" and held special meaning in shamanic ritual — for example in clearing a space and creating a state of trance. Its smoke also keeps unpleasant smells and insects at bay.
How to use it
Place a few dried berries on glowing charcoal in a heatproof dish, or on a sieve burner. It blends well with other woody, resinous or spicy incenses.
Good to know
A natural plant product, so colour and piece size vary. Ensure good ventilation while burning.
