A round, silver-plated pendant shaped like the sun, with a purple amethyst, the purple form of quartz, at its centre. It comes on a 45 cm black cord and weighs about 9 g. Made in India.
A sun disc with a purple centre
The purple stone in the middle of the silvery disc is the first thing people notice. A light shirt shows off the stone; a dark jumper brings out the silver circle. The round shape suits an open-necked blouse and a polo neck alike. If you also wear a shorter chain, the sun pendant on its 45 cm cord stays below it, in a row of its own.
The sun in India
In India the sun is honoured as Surya. Surya Namaskar, the Sun Salutation known from yoga, takes its name from him and is traditionally done at sunrise. It is a sequence of twelve movements, repeated while facing the sun.
If you practise yoga, or are looking for a gift for a friend who does, this pendant is a small keepsake of morning practice.
For a February birthday
Among the birthstones, amethyst belongs to February. That makes it a personal gift for a friend or relative born in February, and the sun motif carries a good wish as well.
If the silver tone dulls
The pendant is silver-plated, which means a thin layer of silver covers the metal; it is not solid silver. Over time, especially with water and perfume, the plating can darken. A soft, dry cloth brings back the shine, but avoid scourers and strong silver polish. Take it off before bathing and store it dry.
