A silver-plated cross decorated with small, light green peridot stones. It comes on a fine silver-coloured chain about 45 cm long, weighs about 9 g and was made in India.
Light green peridot
This is a light, slightly yellowish green stone. On the silvery cross it adds a fresh splash of colour. Wear it with natural linen, a white blouse or a beige jumper; in summer it looks especially good against tanned skin.
It was once called the evening emerald, because it keeps its green under lamplight. So it stays just as fresh at an evening dinner as by day.
A stone from deep below volcanoes
Peridot is the clear, gem-quality form of a mineral called olivine. It forms deep inside the Earth and is carried to the surface by volcanoes. On one beach in Hawaii, at Papakōlea Bay, this mineral turns the sand green. The ancient Egyptians mined it on a small Red Sea island now called Zabargad.
Being a little softer than quartz, peridot should not be stored with harder stones that could scratch it.
For an August birthday
For anyone born in August, peridot is their birthstone. If you are looking for a gift for such a relative or friend, this cross is a personal idea. Its green also suits Easter and spring clothes. On most people the chain of about 45 cm reaches the collarbone.
The pendant is silver-plated, with a thin layer of silver over the metal; it is not solid silver. It comes with its chain. Take it off before bathing and keep it dry, so the plating stays bright for a long time.
