A narrow, curved, upright silver-plated pendant with a chakra motif and stones in several shades. It comes on a 45 cm black cord, weighs about 9 g and was made in India.
The colours of the chakras
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel”. Indian yoga tradition describes seven main chakras, lined up as centres from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. In today's chakra charts each has its own colour, from the bottom up red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. This pendant's coloured stones point to those colours.
The first detailed accounts of the chakras survive in medieval Indian texts. Rainbow colours were only linked to them in the 20th century, yet today they are the best known.
If you work with the chakras, the pendant is a small reminder of your practice. Otherwise, it is simply a cheerful, colourful piece of jewellery. You can see the exact colours of the stones in the product photos.
A narrow, curved shape
On this slim pendant, the coloured stones stand out clearly against the black cord. Wear it with a plain T-shirt, a loose linen shirt or a knitted jumper. It shows best in summer, on an open neckline. On the 45 cm cord the pendant hangs just below the collarbone.
A gift for a friend who does yoga
It makes a small gift for a friend who practises yoga or meditation, and it fits easily in a bag on the way to class. The pendant is silver-plated, with a thin layer of silver over the metal; it is not solid silver.
Take it off for exercise, showering and swimming, because sweat and water can darken the plating. If it dulls, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth, and store it dry.
