An elongated, ankh-shaped silver-plated pendant with a purple decorative stone at its centre. It comes on a 45 cm black cord, weighs about 9 g and was made in India.
The ankh, the sign of life
The ankh is a cross topped with a loop, a sign from ancient Egyptian writing that means “life”. On temple walls the gods often hold it in their hands or offer it towards the pharaoh's face. An ankh-shaped mirror case was even found in Tutankhamun's tomb.
Later, Coptic Christians took it up and used it as a cross. Today many people wear it as a sign of their interest in ancient Egypt or of their love of life. It also makes a good gift for someone who has been to Egypt or likes reading about ancient history.
A purple stone at the centre
The silver lines of the pendant are simple, and the purple stone adds the colour. On a plain, dark garment both the stone and the silvery shape stand out well. You can wear it with jeans or with smarter clothes. On the 45 cm cord the elongated shape hangs straight, just below the collarbone.
We don't name the type of stone, because we have no reliable information on it. You can see its colour in the product photos.
At 9 g, it is comfortable to wear all day. If the black cord fades over time, you can thread the pendant onto a new one.
A little care for the silver plating
The pendant is silver-plated, with a thin layer of silver on the surface; it is not solid silver. To keep it bright for longer, take it off before bathing or swimming and store it somewhere dry. If the plating dulls, polish it with a soft, dry cloth.
