If you had to choose a single scent for meditation, many would say sandalwood – warm, deep and timeless.
The scent of sandalwood
The scent of sandalwood is warm, creamy and softly woody – one of the noblest ingredients of the Eastern incense and perfume tradition. A deep, soothing and full character that is never overpowering. By tradition sandalwood is the classic scent of meditation and stillness, associated with supporting focus and inner peace.
When to reach for it
It is a wonderful companion for meditation, yoga, prayer or a quiet evening wind-down. The warm, woody scent comes through best in a meditation corner or a living room.
Use and finish
A hand-rolled, traditional Indian masala stick, roughly 23 cm long, in a decorative hexagonal gift pack. Place it in a stable, non-flammable incense holder, light the tip, then blow out the flame so the ember glows on. Never leave burning incense unattended, and ventilate the room while it burns.
One lit stick, and the room grows still – a warm, woody warmth that draws you inward.
