Styrax is a warm, amber-like resin used for incense for centuries: burned, it gives a sweetish, balsamic smoke. This loose, natural resin evokes the mood of ancient ceremonies.
About styrax
Styrax (Styrax calamitus) is the resin of an amber-scented shrub long used as incense. In antiquity it was often offered to the goddess Hecate; by tradition it was used in ceremonies mixed with Syrian rue and bay leaves. It has a warm, sweetish, balsamic scent.
How to use it
Resin is traditionally burned on glowing charcoal or on a dedicated sieve burner. Place a small piece on the heated charcoal or above the sieve, and the resin slowly melts, releasing fragrant smoke. Always use a heat-safe dish in a well-ventilated space.
