Myrrh is perhaps the best-known sacred incense resin: its warm, balsamic, slightly bitter scent has been prized for millennia. This loose, natural resin evokes the mood of ancient ceremonies.
About myrrh
Myrrh (Commiphora abyssinica) is obtained from the resin of African and Arabian trees; it is regarded as one of the world's most famous spiritual incenses. In ancient Syria it was an expression of purity and fertility. It has a warm, balsamic, deep scent; tradition linked it with cleansing a space and with sacred moments.
How to use it
Resin is traditionally burned on glowing charcoal or on a dedicated sieve burner. Place a small piece on the heated charcoal or above the sieve, and the resin slowly melts, releasing fragrant smoke. Always use a heat-safe dish in a well-ventilated space.
