Copal is one of the oldest incense resins of Central America: its fresh, clear, resinous scent was carried through ceremony after ceremony. This loose, natural resin can be burned on charcoal or a sieve burner.
About copal
Copal (Bursera species) is a natural tree resin that, when burned, gives a fresh, clear, resinous smoke. In the ancient cultures of Central America it was the incense of initiations and sacred visioning; tradition linked it with opening the heart, refreshment and calm.
How to use it
Resin is traditionally burned on glowing charcoal or on a dedicated sieve burner. Place a small piece on the heated charcoal or above the sieve, and the resin slowly melts, releasing fragrant smoke. Always use a heat-safe dish in a well-ventilated space.
