The scent of myrrh has accompanied solemn moments for millennia – warm, deep and commanding reverence.
The scent of myrrh
Myrrh is one of humankind's most ancient incense materials: a warm, balsamic, slightly sweet resin scent with a deep and faintly earthy note. For millennia it has accompanied sacred and solemn occasions across many cultures. The masala base makes the smoke full and softly billowing. By tradition myrrh is the scent of contemplation and reverence.
When to reach for it
It is a wonderful companion for meditation, prayer or creating an intimate, solemn mood. The deep, balsamic scent comes through best in a meditation corner or a living room.
Use and finish
A hand-rolled, traditional Indian masala stick, roughly 23 cm long, in a decorative hexagonal gift pack. Place it in a stable, non-flammable incense holder, light the tip, then blow out the flame so the ember glows on. Never leave burning incense unattended, and ventilate the room while it burns.
One lit stick, and the room fills with ancient, balsamic warmth – an invitation to go inward.
