Hollyhock (Alcea rosea) is the classic of old village yards. Flowers bloom in dense false spikes, 7–10 cm across, usually double. Rich colour shades. Can be sown in place, but for earlier flowering, raise seedlings.
Growing
Sow in February–May. Row spacing 40 cm, plant spacing 30 cm, sowing depth 1 cm. Cover until germination.
Beside fences, for cottage garden atmosphere, tall flower borders. Traditional Hungarian flower.
