Where handpan and tongue drum meet
This 40-centimetre hybrid instrument unites the depth of the handpan with the melodic clarity of the tongue drum. The titanium-steel playing surface shines in bright white and bears a stylised excerpt from the Heart Sutra. The base is crafted from deep green birch wood that gives a warm, full resonance. For you this is a piece that sounds beautifully and looks beautifully in the living room.
Fifteen notes at 432 Hz
The notes of the D-minor Kurd scale are F#3, G3, A3, B3, C#4, D4, E4, F#4, G4, A4, B4, C#5, D5, E5, F#5. Tuning to 432 Hz is said by many to be closer to the rhythm of nature and especially pleasant during longer meditation sessions. The Kurd scale traditionally voices mystical yet warmly human emotions.
Tonal colours and possibilities
The wooden stop at the bottom can be removed, so you may choose between more pronounced overtones or a softer, more restrained sound. The built-in piezo-electric pickup lets you connect the instrument to an amplifier and apply effects when preparing for a stage performance, while at home it gives a complete acoustic experience as well.
A rich package
The box equips you with everything needed: the instrument itself at about 35.5 centimetres, a padded carrying bag, a pair of mallets, tuning stickers, a detailed instruction manual and a rattan-weave drum surround. This complete set lets you begin your exploration as soon as you open the box.
The Heart Sutra decoration
The text adorning the playing surface is an excerpt from the Buddhist Heart Sutra, a foundational teaching on emptiness and the interconnectedness of all things. Tradition holds that sound is especially suited to making this teaching perceptible. With every strike you live a small part of this several-thousand-year-old wisdom, speaking to you through resonance.
